I've been known to be a fan of a cold pint at a pub and I LOVE me a dingy, dark dive bar, but whenever I veer to some fancy schmancy mixology over-priced cocktail place (I DO appreciate a well-made cocktail), I almost always go for the one drink that includes an egg white. It's the froth. There's something about the froth. And although (believe it or not), I'm not a fan of all liquors, if it contains froth I will most likely enjoy it.
I have a theory about this froth fixation and I attribute it to childhood visits to Orange Julius.
Anyone else? Anyone?
I'm afraid to think of what's in an actual Orange Julius but this is a fun, healthy, great tasting alternative using leftover ingredients from my hummingbird cake. To attain frothy perfection add some meringue powder (or a fresh egg white or two).
Blend, sip, wipe off moustache.
INGREDIENTS: (makes 4 cups)
- 1 large banana
- 5 oz. pineapple
- juice of 1 orange (about ½ cup)
- 1 tbsp. meringue powder
- 2 cups your favorite milk (I used 2%)
- a few ice cubes
-Place all ingredients in a blender and blend on high until smooth.
-Drink immediately.
